Research Assistance

Research and Reference Services are remote for the Fall 2020 Semester.

Research and Reference

Librarians are available to assist you with many library and research queries:

  • Getting started with your research for a term paper by narrowing your topic and choosing keywords for searching
  • Learn how to find books, journal articles, and other types of materials in K-Search, or in one of our catalogs, CONSORT and OhioLINK
  • Finding a subject-specific or course-related page with suggested resources for all academic departments and concentrations
  • Selecting appropriate databases to search for journal articles, primary sources, images, and more on your topic
  • Finding statistics
  • Providing citation manuals to help you cite your references correctly

Research and Reference Services

Research and reference services are provided by reference librarians and interns. We have daily hours during the semester, and each librarian has regularly scheduled shifts, though any librarian or intern working should be able to get you started on your assignment.

Research and Reference Hours of Operation

Assistance is available during the day, as well as in the evenings and on weekends. A schedule of hours during the academic year is listed below:

Monday-Thursday: 10:00am-12:00pm, 1:00pm-5:00pm, and 6:00pm-9:00pm
Friday: 10:00am -12:00pm
Saturday: 1:00pm-5:00pm
Sunday:  1:00pm-5:00pm and 6:00pm-9:00pm

The Research and Reference Desk is closed during most campus breaks.

Appointments

Our librarians do not hold official office hours, but we are available for one-on-one appointments via Google Meet or Zoom for those who would like more individualized attention. Plus, if you make an appointment, there will be less risk of interruption because we will be focused on you. Appointments are held virtually and may be set up either by contacting the librarian directly or by filling out this form.

After Hours Help

If you need immediate assistance, and we are not available, please consider:

  • Research Guides which are available for each academic department and concentration. These guides contain database recommendations, search strategies, and more.

Our FAQ contains answer to many questions. If you don't see a response to your question, ask us and we will respond.

Academic Department Liaison Librarians

Each academic department has an assigned librarian, who is available for:

  • Individual or small group library research consultations
  • Suggesting books, videos, and other curriculum-related materials and resources
  • Teaching course-related library instruction sessions

Collection purchase suggestions may be submitted via the materials request form.
Faculty may request a course-integrated library instruction via this menu. Here is more information on our librarian developed learning outcomes.

FAQs

You may check our FAQs, http://reference.kenyon.edu/, if you don't see your question answered, please submit one. We also have subject guides with suggested resources for all areas of study, and more.

Most of our databases are available for you to access from off-campus. Duo is now required for off-campus access. If you are ever asked for your bar code, it is the number located on the back of your Kenyon ID/K-Card.

If you have a question about your library account or are having difficulty renewing books, you will need to contact our circulation desk directly at (740) 427-5186. You may renew books online via your MyCONSORT account, https://consort.library.denison.edu/patroninfo
