Print to Departmental Ricoh Printers on Your Mac

Employees from each department have access to departmental printers separate from those to which students may print. These instructions detail how to connect a Mac to Kenyon's departmental printers.

Once you add the departmental printer queue, you might want to change your printing settings; see the links following the instructions for additional configuration options.

Note: If your departmental printer requires a user code, click here for instructions after you have added the queue to your Mac. Not sure if your departmental printer requires a user code? Call Helpline at 1-740-427-5700 or your department's administrative assistant.

Note: Permission to print to departmental printers is granted individually to different departments. Employees that do not work in a specific building often will not be able to print to the departmental printers housed in that building.

Map the Departmental Printer Queue on Your Mac

These instructions use the departmental printer ASC018 (model C5503) as an example.

1. If you are attempting to connect to a Departmental printer queue, you must first install the correct driver.

If your departmental printer is model C5503, C3003, C2503, or C305:

  • Click this link to download the Ricoh driver installer package. (In Chrome, right-click the link and select Save Link As...)
  • In your Downloads folder, double-click Ricoh_PS_Printers_Vol3_EXP_LIO_3.9.0.0.dmg to open the installer disk image.
  • Follow the instructions to complete the installation before proceeding.

2. Make sure you have internet access. Select Apple Menu > System Preferences.
3. Click Printers & Scanners.
4. Click the + sign beneath the list of printers.
5. In the window that appears, right-click (or hold the Control key and click) in the empty grey area above the Search bar. In the menu that appears, select Customize Toolbar… Drag and drop the Advanced icon (look for the gear symbol) up to the toolbar under the Add heading, then click Done.

6. Select the Advanced tab. From the Type dropdown menu, choose Windows printer via spoolss
7. In the URL field, type smb:// Be sure to type the specific name of your departmental printer in place of ASC018.
8. In the Use pulldown menu at the bottom of the window, click Select Software. In the window that appears, select the print driver that matches your Ricoh model. Our example printer, ASC018, is a C5503, therefore we should select Ricoh MP C5503 PS (You can type that in the Filter box in the top right to find it faster.) Click OK to close that window, then click Add to complete the process.

9. If you are printing from a personal computer for the first time, you will need to provide your Kenyon username and password to send the document to your printing account. Check the box to “Remember this password in my keychain” so that you don’t need to repeat this process every time you print.
