Spring Break, Using the Library (on and off campus), and Your Research Projects

Are you planning to work on any research projects for your classes over Spring Break? Will you be working off-campus? Here are some tips from the library's Research & Reference Desk for a successful library research over the upcoming break:

  • Did you know the library subscribes to over 380 databases? Within this collection of databases, you will find journal articles, news articles, streaming video, art images, and more. If you aren't sure which database is best for your project, each academic department has a page with suggested library resources appropriate for that area of study, go here to find the full list of subject pages: http://kenyon.libguides.com/.
  • Almost all of our databases (http://kenyon.libguides.com/az.php) are available anywhere you are doing work. You don't need to be in one of the library's mods, a campus study space, or on Kenyon's campus to "use" the library. If you are asked to login, you will need to type your network (AKA your email) username and password. Duo is required.
  • If you will be in Ohio, and near an OhioLINK library (Go here to see the list of libraries: https://www.ohiolink.edu/members), your Kenyon ID will allow for you to check out books at another Ohio college's library. Here are the directions on how to request the delivery of library materials to another library or how to check out books at another library in the OhioLINK consortia: https://www.ohiolink.edu/content/how_borrow_library_materials. Tips: When asked for your name, type your first and last names (NOT your Kenyon username). When you are asked for a barcode, it is the number on the back of your K-card/Student ID (100000+your student id number).
  • The library buildings and service areas will be open limited hours  on weekdays during break. If you have any last minute questions, the Research & Reference Desk is open through Friday, March 1, closing at noon. During break, if you have any research questions you may send them via email to the desk (reference@kenyon.edu) but please allow about 24 hours for a response. The library buildings will be closed in the evening and on weekends during break. At the end of break, the library, and the Research & Reference Desk, will re-open and resume regular semester hours on Sunday, March 17 at 1:00pm.
  • You may also contact desk during break via email with your research questions (reference@kenyon.edu), but please allow about 24 hours for a response. Or contact the liaison librarian for the subject you are studying. You can send them an email with your question, or make an appointment to meet in the week following break. Have a good break!
