The Writing Center
The Writing Center is located in Olin Library, room 307. Student tutors are available Sundays 2:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Sunday through Thursday 7:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. during the semester. Writing Center tutors are also available in the Gund Commons computer lab Sunday through Thursday 7:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
- Appointments Available: You can sign your name to the list of available
appointments posted on the door of Olin 307. If you prefer, however, you can just
walk in and see if a Writing Center tutor is free to help you.
- What We Offer: The Writing Center tutors can help you discover ways to begin
an assignment, methods for organizing or developing your ideas, or strategies for revision.
The tutors can also talk to you about your writing process and suggest ways to break out of old patterns which may not be working as well for your now as they once did.
In addition, a tutor can offer you advice on creative writing, comprehensive exams, applications for graduate or professional school, essays for special programs, or anything else you're writing.
The Writing Center tutors are educated readers for whatever you may be writing. They can offer a fresh point of view.
- Our Tutors: The Writing Center tutors are Kenyon undergraduates. They are chosen for their superlative writing ability and their interest in teaching writing to others. These talents are further enhanced by a fall semester program on the teaching of writing.
- OWL Submissions: Writing Center tutors staff the
Online Writing Lab
(the OWL), so you'll get the same kinds of help with writing when you submit it
electronically. You don't have to type in what you've written--it's easy to learn
how to scan it in. (Use OWL help, or ask a tutor or a Computing Assistant.)
And you can decide if you want comments from tutors only, or from the campus as
a whole.
The OWL is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the semester at: http://owl.kenyon.edu
- Application form: Applications are due one week after Spring Break for tutor positions for the fall.
- For More Information: Contact Jeanne Griggs, Director of the Writing Center (griggsj@kenyon.edu)
