About Special Collections

The Special Collections of Olin and Chalmers Libraries consist of both individual books of high research or other value as well as specialized subject collections that offer high value for researchers. Because the stacks in this department are closed, researchers may browse the collection through CONSORT, Kenyon's online library catalog.

Special Subject Collections

  • Jones Collection - The Louisa Brooke Jones Collection is a collection of first editions, signed editions and fine press books collected by Louisa Brooke Jones and Thomas Catesby Jones and given to Kenyon in memory of Thomas Catesby Jones. Mr. Jones was a Trustee of Kenyon College from 1943 until his death in 1946. In addition to funds in support of Music, Art and Poetry, Mr. and Mrs. Jones gave a number of important items that greatly enrich our Special and Typography collections.
  • Kenyon Authors Collection - The Kenyon Authors Collection includes materials written, edited, or produced by Kenyon faculty, administrators or staff during the time of their employment at Kenyon. New titles are added annually at a reception held to honor the authors in the Special Collections Reading Room.
  • Lewis Collection - The Lewis Collection of Early Mathematics materials is an informal collection of bound materials donated to Kenyon by J.N. Lewis. The collection includes many early and rare books on mathematics, astronomy and science.
  • Native American Portraiture Collection - Many of the materials in this collection were donated by Kenyon alumnus Eugene Bigler, a noted art collector. This collection includes rare prints and bound materials related to early Native Americans.
  • Powell Collection - The Scott Powell Collection of Vladimir Nabokov contains first editions and other rare materials donated by Scott R. Powell K1970. This collection was donated to Kenyon in 1999.
  • Riker Collection - The Charles Riker Collection of William Butler Yeats is one the country's finest collections of published material by and about the Irish poet William Butler Yeats. This collection was donated to Kenyon in the 1940s.
