Reading Room Regulations
Because Special Collections and Archives holds rare and special research materials, the stacks are closed to researchers. The materials in these collections are available for use, subject to the following rules:
- Material from these collections does not circulate and must be consulted in the Greenslade Special Collections Reading Room during posted hours.
- Readers must sign the register and present valid photo identification each day before entering the Reading Room.
- USE PENCILS ONLY. Laptops and cameras may also be used with staff permission.
- All food, drinks, and tobacco products are prohibited from the Reading Room.
- All containers and personal effects not required for research, including briefcases, backpacks, coats and purses, must be placed in the closet or left at the reception desk before entering the Reading Room.
- Readers are permitted to use one book, box, or folder at a time. Exceptions may be made by the staff member on duty if appropriate.
- Please ask a staff member for gloves if you will be handling photographs.
- Materials must be handled carefully. All materials must be used flat on the table. Do not make any marks on or remove marks from the materials. Do not open uncut pages. No books, papers, or other objects may be laid on materials (except weights provided for holding books open).
- The order of archival materials should not be altered. Please maintain the sequence of items within their folder, box, or other protective enclosure.
- All inquiries concerning photocopying must be referred to a staff member. Approval of photocopy requests will be made on a case-by-case basis. Photography is also permitted with the approval of a staff member. Please inform the staff if you intend to reproduce images from Special Collections materials for use in publication. It is the responsibility of the researcher to seek permission from the copyright holder to reproduce for publication.
- When you have finished using material, please return it to a staff member. Please inform the staff member if you will be using the item(s) again in the near future.
