WMNS 331: Feminist Methodologies

Archives

The Greenslade Special Collections and Archives was named in honor of Thomas Boardman Greenslade Kenyon '31, longtime college archivist and loyal Kenyon alumnus. The Greenslade Special Collections and Archives is housed in Olin and Chalmers Libraries. It consists of two main collections: Special Collections, including rare books and special subject research collections, and the Kenyon College Archives, which contains material related to the history and people of Kenyon College.

Locating Materials in the Archives

You can use CONSORT by subject and location: Kenyon College to gain a sense of the types of materials available. The following subject headings may be useful to you:

Also, using keywords and restricting your search to location: KEN Special Collections may be helpful. For example, searching by "kenyon college" AND "honors thesis" AND "women" will retrieve honors theses on Kenyon College, located in the Archive.

Newspapers and Periodicals

These periodicals are not indexed. One strategy is to browse by date.

  • Kenyon College--Periodicals
  • Gambier (Ohio)--Newspapers
  • Mount Vernon (Ohio)--Newspapers
  • Knox County (Ohio)--Newspapers
  • Browse issues of The Kenyon Collegian
  • Browse volumes of the Kenyon Reveille

  • People and Places at Kenyon

Browse the Subject Files, which are files of clippings collected on specific topics. This list is also available in the purple binder at the Archives Reference Desk. Browsing these files may be a good way to begin as there are several women-specific subjects.

There are also several Name Files on a variety of people affiliated with Kenyon. While no comprehensive list of these files exists, you can ask the Manager of Special Collections and Archives to look for files on individuals you're interested in.
