Printing

There are many networked printers available on campus. Public lab printers are available to any Kenyon user with a network account, while printers in College offices are available only to members of that department.

As you begin to work in the Kenyon network environment, you will want to configure your personal computer so that it can access a networked printer that is close in your office or residence hall. You can even set up several networked printers for your use. This gives you the option of printing to other nearby printers if the closest printer becomes unavailable.

Networked Printers and Print Servers

If you are a Windows user, before you can set up a networked printer, you must know the name of the printer and the server it uses. A server is a computer that handles printing for a group of printers via "print queues," which have been set up for each printer on the server. Each print queue keeps track of the status and progress of the print jobs sent to it. A list of the public printers accessible to Windows computers is included in the next section of this document.

Note: ALL printer queues, both public and departmental, reside on the printers.kenyon.edu server.

If you are a Mac user, before you can set up a networked printer for your computer, you must know the type or model of printer and its domain name (e.g. cha3hp.kenyon.edu)or IP address.

If you are a new Kenyon faculty or staff member, you can find out the name of the printer and server for your office area by asking the department's administrative assistant. If you are a new student using a public lab, public lab computers are already configured to print to the printer(s) in the lab.

Color Printing at Helpline

LBIS maintains an HP Color LaserJet 4500DN for use by members of the Kenyon community for academic purposes only. This means that the print request must be related to class assignments or the work of the College. This printer is capable of full color duplex printing at resolutions up to 600dpi. It accepts either Letter (8 1/2 x 11 inches) or Legal (8 1/2 x 14 inches) paper. Letter or legal size transparencies can also be accommodated. Only HP-approved paper and transparencies may be used for the HP LaserJet family of printers. HP (part no. C29348) letter-size transparencies are available from the HelpLine.

Currently there is no charge to use this printer, however LBIS reserves the right to implement a fee in the future.

LBIS policy permits only one copy of any job. Additional duplication of color materials may be arranged through Printing and Mail Services or third-party companies.

For further information on using this printer, please contact HelpLine (740/427-5700).
