Information Technology Support for Students

Public Computing Facilities

We make available public academic computing facilities in several locations across campus for student use. Any problems with Kenyon-owned academic computing facilities should be reported to our Helpline.

Residential Computing

Each student is provided with a network port in their residence for their personal academic use. LBIS will maintain and fully support the connectivity of this network port. Students are required to ensure their personally owned equipment meets our policies for antivirus protection prior to connecting to Kenyon’s network. While LBIS may from time to time provide assistance for students to achieve compliance with this requirement, it is the ultimate responsibility of the student to meet this requirement independent of LBIS assistance. Any student machine found not to be in compliance with our antivirus policies will be immediately disconnected from the network until such time the machine is in compliance. LBIS will provide detailed documentation on how to install, configure, and maintain this software. LBIS may also provide limited electronic references to assist students with the removal of viruses, spyware, adware or other programs, however it is not the responsibility of LBIS to provide removal services of this type for students. The LBIS Helpline can provide assistance with accessing networked resources from personally owned equipment located on our network, but does not provide support for general computing issues that are non-network related.

Student Organizations

LBIS does not provide direct support of information technology equipment purchased for or by student organizations. LBIS can provide purchasing services, and will encourage organizations to purchase extended hardware warranties to cover equipment repair or replacement. Student organizations should seek and acquire any support services necessary for software from software or third-party vendors. As with student residences, LBIS will fully support connectivity to the campus network for student organization computers, provided they are in compliance with our campus-wide antivirus policies. In this regard, LBIS considers this equipment to be identical to student-owned equipment in residence halls.
