Office 2007/2008 Upgrade

Details

This summer LBIS plans to upgrade all campus computers (faculty, staff, administrators, classrooms and labs) to the new versions of Microsoft Office.

- Office 2007 for Windows (Word/Excel/Powerpoint/Publisher/Access/Outlook)

- Office 2008 for Macintosh (Word/Excel/Powerpoint/Entourage)

Attention Mac Users:

The Office 2008 upgrade does not involve as many fundamental changes to the interface as Office 2007 for PCs. Office 2008 offers enhanced features, including the new file format. See the training materials for Macs at the bottom and contact your liaison if you have further questions.

Each department will be upgraded as a unit.

Talk to your liaison to schedule the best time for your department to be upgraded.

Plan for approximately 30 minutes per machine.

The LBIS summer assistants will come around to offices, labs, and classrooms to complete the process.

Your liaison may hold a training session before, during, or after your department's upgrade.

Training materials are available for download at the bottom of this page, and include: Tip sheets / Office 2007 New Features / Step-by-step instruction sheets.

The new file format

With the new version of Office comes a new file format. If you haven't already started receiving .docx files and .xlsx files, you will soon. For more about the new file format go to: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HA100069351033.aspx.

Advantages to using the new file format
-Compact files
-Improved damaged-file recovery
-Better privacy and more control over personal information
-Better integration and interoperability of business data
-Easier detection of documents that contain macros
