Multimedia Resources
The Kenyon College Multimedia Collection Room maintains a collection of over 10,000 combined commercial VHS, Laser Disk, and DVD film titles; more than 17,000 commercial CD, LP and audiocassette tape recordings; and several hundred campus concert recordings on CD. In addition, the Library's collection of printed scores and performance music scores are housed in the facility.
Library patrons may view or listen to multimedia materials in one of our six 2-person viewing carrels, 5 audio carrels (3 are equipped with phonograph players), the group study table, or by checking out one of 6 portable DVD/CD players. An electronic keyboard station is also available for our patrons to use.
Circulation and Course Reserves Information
Scores, Videos, Laser Disks & DVDs
Kenyon Students and Affiliated Scholars with valid I.D. may check out multimedia materials from the Multimedia Collections desk for a four hour time period. All materials designated in the online catalog as "library use only" must be viewed in a carrel within the department or on equipment provided by the staff. A limited number of DVDs in the collection circulate for 24 hours to Students and Affiliated Scholars.
Kenyon Faculty, with valid I.D., may check out multimedia materials for 7 days, and may renew materials up to two times, for a total of 21 days. Kenyon Administrators and Staff, with a valid I.D. may check out materials for a 24 hour period.
The fine for any overdue Kenyon item is $5.00 per item per day. Replacement cost for any lost or damaged item is $125.00 ($100.00 plus a $25.00 non-refundable processing fee), plus fines up to $100.00.
Because Kenyon's film and music collections are developed and maintained to support the academic mission of the college, these materials may not be removed from the library by Alumni, Families, Guest Borrowers, Knox County Teachers, or SCAP students.
Please note that Kenyon does not own public performance viewing rights for most titles in our film collection, which means they may not be shown to groups outside of the 'face-to-face" classroom experience. Please check with Joan Pomajevich before attempting to show any film title to any group of people outside of an academic class.
Sound Recordings
Kenyon Students, Staff, Administrators, Affiliated Scholars and Ohiolink patrons with valid I.D. may check out cds and audiocassettes from the Multimedia Collections desk for a four hour time period. All materials must be viewed at a listening station within the Multimedia Collections Room or on equipment provided by the staff. LPs are shelved in open circulation stacks accessible by the patron for use in the room. A turntable needle must be checked out on an ID and installed by an assistant on duty when listening to LPs.
Kenyon Faculty with valid I.D. may check out recordings for 7 days, and may renew items up to two times, for a total of 21 days.
Please note: Materials borrowed from the Multimedia Collections Room must be returned to the Multimedia Collections desk only.
Course Reserves
The function of course reserves is to retain materials within the department for assigned out-of-class viewing and listening. Materials on course reserve are limited to a check-out period of 4 hours and must be viewed within the Multimedia Collections facility. Faculty who place materials on course reserve may remove materials from the department for previewing and classroom use.The course reserve form is available on the web or by contacting the Multimedia Room staff at pbx 5690 or 5174.
