Using the JVC Digital Video Camera

Setting up the camera:
  • Inserting battery: Make sure the battery is fully charged. If not, attach the power adapter in the carrying case to the camera to charge the battery. To insert the battery into the camera, tilt the Viewfinder upward. With the arrow on the battery pointing down, push the battery slightly against the battery compartment and slide the battery down, clicking into place. Lower the Viewfinder and click into place.
  • Power on: Spin the thumbdial (with center red button) on back of the camera to the A position while holding down the gray Lock button on thumbdial.
  • Load tape: Note: If battery's charge is low, you may not be able to load tape. You will have to replace battery with fully charged one to continue. Power should be ON before loading or unloading tape.
  • On top rear of the camera slide and hold the Open/Eject switch in direction of the arrow, then open the tape caddy cover until it locks in place. The tape caddy should then open up automatically. Do not touch internal components. Insert tape with its window facing out. Press Push Here on tape caddy to close. Once it is closed, it recedes automatically. Wait till completely receded before closing the tape caddy cover firmly till it locks in place. Turn camera power off (turn thumbdial to OFF while holding down gray Lock button)if not planning to record immediately.

Recording:

  • Remove the lenscap by pressing in on its tabs.
  • Power On: Turn the power ON with the thumbdial on the A position while holding down the gray Lock button on dial. The power lamp lights up and the camera enters the Record-Standby mode.
  • Front light: To turn on the front light of the camera, press the Push Open button on left rear of camera to open LCD monitor screen. Slide the switch marked Light to ON.
  • View the recording scene: You can use either the Viewfinder or the LCD monitor to view the scene you plan to record. The Viewfinder is ready to use as is. If you want to use the LCD monitor, press the Push Open button on the left rear of camera and pull open the door containing the LCD monitor. It can be tilted for better viewing.
  • Adjust focus: The camera has an Autofocus feature. If you wish to manually adjust focus, tilt Viewfinder to upward position. Adjust with small black sliding switch near the top till focus is clear.
  • Adjust brightness of display: To adjust brightness of the display screen, dial the Menu/Bright button to right of Viewfinder in the direction of either "+" or "-" .
  • Start Recording: Push the red Recording Start/Stop button in the middle of the thumbdial to begin recording. REC will display while the camera is recording.
  • Zoom: In order to zoom in and out , find the dial marked -VOL+ on top of the camera. The dial also has W and T imprinted on it. Dial towards T (telephoto) or "+" to zoom in; dial towards W (wide angle) or "-" to zoom out.
  • Stop recording: To stop recording, press the Recording Stop/Start button. The camera goes to Record-Standby mode.

Playback of video

  • The tape must be in tape holder.
    Playback: Spin the thumbdial (with center red button) on back of the camera to the Play position while holding down the gray Lock button on thumbdial. Use the controls on top of camera to control playback: Play, pause, rewind, fast forward. To adjust speaker volume use the Zoom dial (- VOL +) on top right of camera.

Finishing up:

  • Turn camera power off and replace lens cap. Remove your tape.
    Remove the battery by tilting the Viewfinder upward. Press the Battery Release button on right of battery compartment and hold it while sliding the battery up and out of the compartment.
    Return camera, battery and charger to carrying case.
