- About LBIS
Interlibrary Loan Services
Interlibrary Loan
Purpose
Upon request from Kenyon users--to locate and obtain resources not owned by Kenyon, another Consort library, or OhioLINK library. Items may include books, journal & newspaper articles, dissertations, microfilmed materials, or other circulating documents.
Who Has Access
All Kenyon students, faculty, administrators and staff.
Submitting Requests
Before submitting a request to ILL, it is important to search CONSORT to make sure that Books are not owned by Kenyon or another CONSORT library, or by OHIOLINK and that Journals are not owned by Kenyon.
To make an Interlibrary Loan Request, simply fill out the online request form. One form must be completed for each item requested, providing as much information as possible (incomplete forms may be returned). Citations provided should be complete and accurate in order to avoid delays in processing.
Turnaround
An ILL transaction can take as little as 48 hours or up to 3-4 weeks, depending on several factors, including availability and location(s), time of year and current workload, degree of difficulty in locating, mail service, etc.
Charges
There is currently no charge for ILL requests. Fees for items not obtainable from free lenders are paid by LBIS-Interlibrary Loan. Fees are determined by the lending institutions and can range from $3 to $25 per item.
Notification and Pickup
When ILL material arrives, users are notified by e-mail to pick up at the Circulation Desk--with the exception of faculty photocopies which are sent thru campus mail.
Any number of requests may be submitted. However, during peak periods, a temporary limit of 5 requests per week/ per user may be imposed---with that number increasing as time allows.
Limits and Restrictions
Any number of requests may be submitted, but a limit of 5 requests per week, per user will be processed. Requests in excess of this amount should be prioritized, or they will be returned. In extreme cases (inappropriate or unreasonable amount), requests may be returned to a student, requiring faculty approval before ILL will process.
Returns and Renewals
ILL books should be returned on or before the due date. Due dates (and any special restrictions) are set by the lending library, and must be adhered to. Books must be returned ONLY to the Circulation Desk or to the ILL Office, and should never be placed on shelves, book trucks, or in book drops.
Renewals may be requested prior to the due date, by completing the online Renewal Request form, or by filling out a form at the ILL Office. Requests by email will be accepted, but must be sent to ill@kenyon.edu, and must include the ILL number and the book title. Please note that renewals cannot be granted by Circulation Staff.
Overdues
Fines for overdue ILL books are $1.00 for the first day, $2.00 for the second day, and $3.00 for each additional day overdue. Once book is returned, an invoice will be sent to the user. If not paid within 30 days, student fines will be charged to the student's account--faculty/staff fines will be charged to the individual's department.
Location and Hours
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is located in Olin Library, 2nd floor, Circulation area. Office hours are Monday through Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm.
