Password

What is my password?

Your password was assigned to you in the beginning of your freshmen year. Your e-mail and network passwords are the same and when you change one of them you change the other one as well.

Change your password

For security reasons, all Kenyon network users are required to change their password every 180 days. There are two methods of doing so, though only the latter will work off-campus. This password is both your network password and your email password. Be careful with it, and don't forget it. If you forget your password, you will need to come by Helpline during business hours (8:30am - 4:30pm) with your Kenyon ID so that a Kenyon administrator can reset your account.

IMPORTANT: Your new Kenyon Password MUST meet all the following criteria

  • must be at least 8 characters long
  • former passwords cannot be re-used
  • password must meet complexity requirements:
  • cannot contain all or part of the user's account name
  • must contain characters from at least three of the following four categories: English uppercase characters (A through Z); English lowercase characters (a through z); base 10 digits (0 through 9); non-alphabetic characters (for example, !, $, #, %)

  • Choosing a good password is easy. Here are a few pointers:
  • Do not use the same password on different systems.
  • Do not use names, nor combinations of names, whether they be your name or anyone else's.
  • Do not use dictionary words, or combinations of words.
  • Do use combinations of upper and lower case letters as well as digits and punctuation characters. One way to invent a good password is to think of a phrase, such as "I just want to get logged in!" and then use the first letters of each word, as well as the punctuation characters. Thus the aforementioned phrase would become the password "Ijw2gli!" which is easy to remember and hard to guess. If you are going to use this method, pick a phrase which is easy to remember, but which is not obvious to people who know you. Do not use "Ijw2gli!" or anything similar.

Method #1: Using a Public or Lab PC on Campus

  1. Log into any Kenyon lab computer running Windows. It may prompt you to change your password now. If it does, skip to Step 3.
  2. Once logged in, hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete. Select Change Password.

  3. Verify that your username is correct and that the domain (the Log on to field) is set to KENYON. Then, in the appropriate forms, enter your old password, then your new password twice. Make sure your new password meets the new password requirements.

  4. A screen should now pop up telling you that your password was successfully changed. Hit Cancel to return to your login session or hit Log Off to log off.

Method #2: Using Webmail (also works off-campus)

  1. Go to the Kenyon Webmail Homepage (http://webmail.kenyon.edu). Select Set Webmail Account Options. DO NOT log in.

  2. Select your mail server. For instance, if your username starts with an 'h', select StudentmailH.

  3. Now log on with your username and password.

  4. Follow the directions described below, and make sure your new password meets the new password requirements.

Forgotten or don't know your password?

The Helpline can reset your password in person at the Helpline desk in the library. Please bring a photo ID with you.
