How To: Mapping Network Drives on a Mac

Many Kenyon resources are available on servers (Windows or "Samba" shares) which can be mapped by network users and accessed on campus. These include personal drives (a.k.a. H: drives) and the public (P:) drive.

1.) Ensure that you have a working internet connection and that you are authenticated through the network (in the case of non-residential wireless, make sure you're not logged in as a guest).
2.) On the menu bar click Go > Connect to Server.

Select Connect to Server

3.) Enter the address of the desired server:

Type the address of the server and click OK

  • For your H: (personal) drive, enter smb://rhine.kenyon.edu/username$ for students or smb://tiber.kenyon.edu/username$ for faculty and administration. Note that username is your Kenyon network username and that it's followed by a dollar sign.
  • For your personal web page, enter smb://personal.kenyon.edu/username (note the lack of "$").
  • For the O: (departmental) drive, enter smb://vistuala.kenyon.edu/<departmental share>
  • For the P: (public) drive, enter smb://potomac.kenyon.edu/public
  • For other drives, consult your professor or faculty/administrative liaison.

4.) You will then be prompted for a username and password. Make sure that you enter "KENYON" in the Workgroup or Domain field if it doesn't already appear there.
5.)  Click the OK button.

Type in your Kenyon Username and Password, then click OK
