Configuring Netscape Messenger for Securemail

  • Note: These instructions assume you are already using Netscape Messenger as your mail client and simply want to change it to use the Securemail service.
  • In Netscape Messenger click Edit, then Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings.
  • At the top of the left pane click Server Settings.
  • In Server Settings field enter securemail.kenyon.edu
  • Enter your username (don't add on "@kenyon.edu") in the User Name field.
  • Checkmark the box next to Use Secure Connection (SSL)
  • The Port number should now display 993.
  • In left pane click Outgoing Server (SMTP).
  • In Server Name field enter securemail.kenyon.edu.
  • Checkmark Use name and password.
  • In the User Name field enter your username (don't add on "@kenyon.edu")
  • Under Use Secure Connection (SSL) click Always.
  • The outgoing server's port number should change to 465.
  • Click OK.
  • The configuration is now complete. Return to message list and send a test message to yourself to confirm that the new Securemail service works for your mail client.
  • Note: On Macs, if you have filters set up, recheck them to make sure the folders that collect your filtered messages are named correctly. Go into the Filter option and re-select the folder names.
